Record Store Day 2015

Set aside your old collection of vinyl and get ready to hunt for some hidden gems this Saturday during Record Store Day!

If you need something new to spin on your turntable, four local record stores are offering up deals and entertainment all day!

Homer’s Music downtown on 12th street and Howard street will be selling 50 copies of 311’s “Hydroponic” release from 1992.  This album is a rarity, and with only 50 available, you NEED to get down to Homer’s right when they open at 10 a.m.!

Saddle Creek Records' latest signees Twinsmith will be playing at 9:15 a.m. Saturday morning for everyone out in line. They'll be doing songs from their upcoming album "Alligator Years", out May 4th, and Homer’s will also offer the LP for pre-order on Record Store Day. Homer’s is also featuring the “My Happiness” record from Elvis as a great addition to your stash.

Right across the street, Drastic Plastic will be open at 10 a.m. as well. For those early birds who get there before opening, they'll have plenty of homemade treats, pastries, coffee and cocoa served up while you wait. Treat yourself!

The White Stripes - "Get Behind Me Satan", was originally released in 2005. However, the album has never been officially released on vinyl. The album will finally be available for ‪Record Store Day 2015 in deluxe packaging with 3D lenticular cover, colored vinyl and gatefold jacket. You can grab your copy exclusively at Drastic Plastic!

When observing Record Store Day, you can’t forget about the Saddle Creek Record Shop, which has been an instrumental force for the “Omaha sound.” Come peruse through some records of Saddle Creek artists, such as Bright Eyes and Cursive, and get a palm reading from local group Icky Blossoms! That’s right, there will be amateur palm readings from 11 a.m. to noon, and Icky Blossoms will also be DJing and signing their new Record Store Day 7”. You can find the shop right next to The Slowdown on 14th street and Cuming street.

Last, but certainly not least, is Almost Music on 65th street and Maple street in Benson. The shop, which is half record/half bookstore, will perhaps be throwing the biggest bash in the area on Saturday. There will be live music, food, fun and drinks all day! The shop opens at 10 a.m. and festivities begin shortly after. Catch local live music starting at noon. The lineup is as featured:

Sun-Less Trio 12:00-12:30

Kait Berreckman 12:45-1:15

Dereck Higgins 1:30-2:00

The Broke Loose 2:15-2:45

Record Store Day is recognized and celebrated nationally. This year, over 600 artists will be at one record store or another on Saturday, helping to spread the love of music, no matter what form. Although the phenomenon is on a large scale, local community support is what matters most. Discover a new local band, buy some records and rock out! Enjoy Record Store Day 2015!
