It’s been quite a nostalgic season at Stir Cove this year and Thursday night hit a whole new level. Wu-Tang Clan graced the stage on this beautiful evening and it was as if all the 90’s high school graduates came out to play. And suddenly we all felt young again.
Wu-Tang formed in Staten Island in 1992 and to this day are considered one of the most influential hip hop groups of all time. All original members are still touring together, with the exception of Ol’ Dirty Bastard who passed away from an overdose in 2004. Wu-Tang is currently performing their debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) in full to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its release. The album has since reached certified triple platinum status and is regarded as one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. Each member has seen individual success; some more than others. But there’s a sense of brotherhood that is unmistakable when you see it live.
The cove wasn’t quite as full as I had expected it to be, but that just meant you weren’t standing shoulder to shoulder as we have been for some of their sold out shows this year. It was comfortable and truly a pleasant night. Hard to believe that we are running out of time this Summer, but Stir has no shortage of amazing shows in the remainder of their line-up. Thank you Stir Cove, staff, and security! We’ll see you again soon! Cheers!
