El Paso native Erik Trejo formed Lightworks as a side project of the now-defunct disco-pop duo Bulletproof Tiger.
Lightworks' self-produced Sleepover full-length was inspired by his return voyage to El Paso to reconnect with friends and the continued journey on to his current port in Austin.
Mingling funky beats with a retro-futuristic sci-fi non-sensability, Sleepover sees Lightworks moving away from digital production to experiment with vintage analog synthesizers, guitars, bass, and outdated drum machines.
"Don't get me wrong, I love using both digital sounds from my computer software," he states, "but lately, being around all my friends who live out here in Austin, who mainly play in rock&roll bands, I've been turned on by analog, warmer, more lo-fi sounds. My friends have unlocked these sort of chambers within myself that have always been there, being away from my old friends closed all these chambers. This album is a rediscovery, a visit to my roots."
As such, Sleepover features guest appearances from El Paso friends Kyle Hager (Holy Wave) and Mic Flo.
Lightworks has shared the bill with acclaimed artists including DJ Nobody (Low End Theory), Eureka the Butcher, Botany, Al Lover, Holy Wave, Mystery Cave, and Grenda.
Sleepover is available on Bandcamp as a limited 12" vinyl pressing and for digital download.
