If you put video games, the 80′s, hip-hop, soul music, jazz and standup comedy into a blender and hit "puree," you'd have something close to The Random Experience.
The former English teacher made waves by going way left of his backpack roots and combining 8-bit video game sounds and hard hitting hip-hop tracks, and has become a trailblazer in the budding subgenres of chiptune and nerd-rap. A licensing agreement with Capcom and admiration from the genre's toughest critics has led to performances at top festivals worldwide, constant tours, and placements in TV, movies, university coursework, and of course, games.
As Random as the name suggests, he is just as comfortable spilling his soul on thoughtful tracks as he is weaving through levels of his favorite video games. Ran has toured with guys like Open Mike Eagle, Homeboy Sandman and many more.
Today, Random is no longer a teacher by title, but travels the world to entertain and educate through the seemingly unlikely pairing of intelligence and fantasy based hip-hop.
