Join Jody Green, PhD, Extension Educator with University of Nebraska Lincoln with Nebraska Extension in Lancaster County and Jonathan Larson, PhD, Extension Educator with University of Nebraska Lincoln with Nebraska Extension in Douglas and Sarpy Counties, as they present, "Sex on Six Legs" (entomologists talk about the science behind bizarre insect mating behaviors).
Jody Green is an urban entomologist specializing in the insects and their kin that really bug people, which includes bed bugs, ants, cockroaches, termites, centipedes, ticks and spiders.
Jody works in the community, delivering insect-related information through Twitter, newsletters, television, radio, presentations, workshops and podcasts with her pest friend, Jonathan Larson. In her spare time she attends cool events like this, so though no time is bug-free, all times are fun.
Jonathan Larson is the Nebraska Extension entomologist for Douglas and Sarpy counties. He received his bachelor's from Purdue University and graduated from the University of Kentucky with his doctorate.
He provides education and entertaining entomological assistance for audiences and all ages, as well as practical workshops for professional practitioners in the Omaha, NE area. Jonathan deals with structural pests problems, but his specialty is lawn and landscape pests.
You may recognize Jonathan from "Backyard Farmer", where he is a regular expert panelist in the "Bug Chair" answering viewer's gardening questions.
Science Cafés involve a face-to-face conversation with a scientist about current science topics. They are open to everyone 21 and older. A scientist gives a brief presentation followed by a question and answer period. Pizza will be provided by the Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures for the first 50 people.
