In 2011, a surprising group of band leaders got their musical talents to form Royal Southern Brotherhood, with power bassist Charlie Wooton and Grammy winning Yonrico Scott and released a self-titled album on Ruf Records that shook the music world to its core. This 2012 album is filled with funk, blues, rock and little bit of "la famiglia", the band pushed on, touring the world, selling albums, and gathering fans one by one. Their CD was on top 10 of the Billboard Blues Music Charts for five months. Catching the attention of Rolling Stone Senior Editor David Fricke's early on, they found themselves on his end of the year best list. Now they look at 2013 square the eye with a Blues Music Award Nomination for Best Blues Rock Record, a few solo CDs and a group DVD set to come out.
There's been the roof-raising world tour, taking in twenty-plus countries. There's been the classic Songs From The Road live album. Cyril Neville, Devon Allman and Mike Zito have all found time for critically-acclaimed solo releases, while Yonrico Scott and Charlie Wooton have lent their talents to the hottest artists around.
HeartSoulBlood. The album title says it all. In a rock industry increasingly driven by sales charts and demographics, this second album is the sound of five world-class musicians following their guts and playing tug-of-war with their eclectic influences, whether that's funk, soul, old-blues or hard-rock. This is not an album made to satisfy the suits in boardroom playbacks. It's an album made to soundtrack people's lives.
