We're off to see the Wizard! In a world premiere production, American Midwest Ballet's Erin Alarcón - creator of acclaimed short ballets from the powerful One in Three to the spirited Bricolage - takes us dancing down the Yellow Brick Road in this imaginative new full-length ballet.
Alarcón, a lifelong fan of both the classic film and the groundbreaking fantasy novel, uses the magic of ballet to create an unforgettable experience through her interpretation of the beloved Oz story and its iconic characters: Dorothy, the storm-tossed but unflappable heroine; her companions the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion; the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch; and, of course, the Wizard himself.
A native of New Jersey, Alarcón graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. degree in dance performance from Mercyhurst University. Since joining American Midwest Ballet, she has performed title roles in Giselle, Alice in Wonderland, as Odette in Swan Lake and as Sugar Plum Fairy in Erika Overturff's The Nutcracker. She was featured in Mikhail Fokine's The Dying Swan, the Black Swan pas de deux from Swan Lake, and as Fee in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
She also serves as American Midwest Ballet's operations manager and teaches classes and workshops throughout the state.
